ATV adventures are the ultimate ride when it comes to taking tours of the islands.

The Kualoa Ranch invites you to take a ride on the wild side of Oahu. Once upon a time Oahu’s Kualoa Ranch was an old sugar mill and the sweetness still lingers in the air. Now, the ranch is a film and TV shooting spot that you may recognize from Jurassic Park, George of the Jungle, and even The Hunger Games.

Don’t worry the dinosaurs and crazed children with axes are long gone. But the Kualoa Ranch is here to stay as a veritable ATV adventure tours paradise.

An Oahu ATV tour takes you on a journey through spectacular lush ranch scenery, beneath towering mountains, and through dense rainforest thickets, with the Oahu Kualoa Ranch taking your breath away.

The Big Island also offers ATV tours and ATV adventures for those who want to ride along ocean cliffs feeling the salt wind whip up their hair.

On an ATV tour and adventure ride of Hawaii and the Kualoa Ranch of Oahu, you can truly place yourself in the way of beauty.

What is an ATV

When you find out that ATV is an abbreviation of all-terrain vehicle, you kind of get a clue as to what we are talking about when we say ATV rides and tours. It’s like a four-wheeled motorbike on steroids, or a small car without the frame, roof or windows.

The perfect adventure vehicle for exploring the Big Island and Oahu’s Kualoa Ranch.

ATV’s boast four fat wheels which allow them to tackle any manner of ground, from sink down soil to shifting sand, jungle pathways or open plains. You can see why ATV adventure tours are awesome for exploring the island.

ATV adventure vehicles have speed throttles and brakes in the handlebars, much like a motorbike – this is also how you steer the vehicle when on your tours. These all-terrain vehicles come in two different models; single person and double person, so you can share the adventure ride of your life.

The terrain vehicles are great for exploring landscapes like Hawaii – especially on tours of Oahu and the Big Island. The Big Island and Oahu’s Kualoa Ranch tours of Hawaii offer crumbling cliffs, sweeping meadows, and impeccable mountain ranges. The ATV adventure tour can take you there and beyond.

Why Take an ATV Tour in Hawaii?

Want to follow the footsteps of dinosaurs? Fancy seeing secret coves? Long to smash through gin clear streams and creep through jungle canopies? Or do you long to race through emerald open plains flanked by fabulously impressive mountains?

If the answer is yes, yes, yes, yes, and hell yes – then this is why you should choose ATV tours and ATV adventure in Hawaii, especially around the Big Island, Kauai and Oahu.

From the Big Island to Oahu and Kualoa Ranch – these are some of the most scenic spots, not only on the islands but in the entire world. While you can explore, and tour them by car – you lose the chance to get off road and truly be part of the landscape. While you can explore them by horse or bicycle, there is only so far you can go on that ride.

ATV adventure tours allow you to go beyond ranch borders of the Big Island, Kauai and Oahu, to feel the exhilaration of speed, and to truly explore the ranch and island landscape in a way that will take your breath away (similar to the haleakala sunrise tour).

ATV tours and adventure tours are also super easy to grasp, you don’t need to be an expert behind the handlebars and you can go at a speed that is comfortable to you. Expert ATV tour guides will also lead the ATV adventure so you don’t end up whizzing off a cliff or falling into a volcano.

What if I Have Never Been on an ATV Before?

Not everyone has an ATV adventure ride parked next to their station wagon so if you have never sat on the back of an all-terrain vehicle before or participated in these tours– fear not.

One of the most important aspects to taking ATV tours and adventure ride and being on the back of one of these bad boys is not allowing a false sense of security to overtake sensibility.

Make sure you always wear a helmet and protective gear when out on these tours or going for a ride, make sure you ask any questions you may have prior to revving the throttle, and always listen to the instructions of your adventure tour leader.

The latter is important, not just for the sake of your own safety, but also for the world we live in. Oahu and the Big Island are brimming with natural treasures, from exotic orchids to rare trees and a ton of flora and fauna. It’s what makes Oahu’s Kualoa Ranch and the Big Island so beautiful.

The last thing we want is for these sacred things to be destroyed by someone getting carried away on the ride of their life as they razz away on their ATV adventure tour of the island. The ATV tour guides will know the trails to follow around Oahu and the Big Island that cause little to no damage to the paradise island of Hawaii.

What Can I Expect on an ATV Tour of Hawaii?

With ATV tours from the Kualoa Ranch on Oahu you can expect to ride in the footprints of dinosaurs as you discover the sights and sounds of Jurassic Park.

Away from Oahu’s Kualoa Ranch and over on the Big Island, your ATV tour is likely to take you along the cliff edge of the island where you can admire dazzling views out across the sparkling blue ocean. Which of these tours you choose will depend on the island you are staying on. Most tours across the islands tend to last a couple of hours.

Before you head off on your ATV tours you will be given a full safety briefing, along with protective gear like a helmet. ATV tours aren’t just about razzing around the ranch as fast as you can go. Along these tours and as part of your ATV adventure, your guide will pull over at the most picturesque stops for photo opportunities and will be all too keen to tell stories about these islands the locals call paradise.

ATV tours tend to be touted as adventure tours of the island so you should also bring a sense of excitement and discovery with you. On tour, you should prepare to cross streams and meadows of wildflowers, to cut through verdant jungle trails, and even to stop by gushing waterfalls for a refreshing dip in the turquoise lagoons. This is what makes an ATV adventure such a special tour of the island.

To ride an ATV around the island, you will need to have celebrated your sweet sixteenth birthday, even if you didn’t do it in MTV fashion. Its recommended to dress appropriately for your tour with long pants and closed shoes. Even if the Hawaiian heavens have opened you can still be sure that your ATV ride will go right ahead. If you don’t want to get wet then pack a rain coat or poncho.

What is the Best Time for an ATV Tour of Hawaii?

Whether you want to ride on an ATV tour as soon as the sunlight spills across the island or if you prefer to take tours later in the day when the sun has started to cool, there is no specific time of day better than the other for taking ATV tours.

For those who are heading out on ATV tours across the island in the height of the afternoon we recommend packing sunscreen and a hat for fighting of those UV rays – Jedi style.

Definitely one of our more “off a beaten path” tours we did in Hawaii and we had a blast! It was so much fun. We took the kids and it was their favorite parts of our vacation for sure.

I am a lover of water sports and that’s where you will find me most of the time. Friends came to town and wanted to try an ATV tour on O’ahu – reluctantly I said yes. I am so glad I did. We had so much fun and I truly enjoyed this adventure on land. If you get the opportunity – you will see a part of the island you wouldn’t be able to see otherwise. Highly recommend.

Grew up in Colorado and absolutely love four wheeling, riding my dirt bike, and anything you can ride to get lost in the country. This tour was amazing – no it wasn’t the same as the freedom I have to run wild in the Colorado mountains but it was fascinating nonetheless. Even though it rained (just a little) on our tour it didn’t stop me or anyone else from having a great time. The sites were beautiful and the guides were amazing – they made it so easy to have fun.
